My struggle with technology…

…is very real.

What takes a regular person, even a child, to engage with their phones or computers and produce a product — a post, a picture, a blog, a video, a podcast — requires a huge amount of time and focus on my part. And even then it does not always go well.

I know what I want to say and how I want something to look  — especially that, I have good aesthetic taste. I love beautiful pictures in magazines — yes, that is why I still look at print material. Pictures of beautiful homes, food, clothes, bodies — I have such an appreciation for incredible photography. I marvel at scenery, mountains, oceans, flowers, vineyards, and even furniture. That being said, to get the looks I want in my posts or videos I would really need a crew — a professional photographer — and yet for now, day to day posts or video, I only have me and sometimes my kids (and only if they are in a good mood).

On certain occasions, I have hired professional photographers or talented friends and media pros to help me. When I need new headshots, podcast promotions, workshop promotions, and special events I call in the backup support. My entire website and all its attachments required loads of time and knowledge that honestly would have taken me months. I have constant questions and conundrums that are handled by media professionals. This is what they do, and they are good at this... so they like it.

I may not love this virtual platform, but I have grown to like it more...especially when I hear from those who cannot get to my classes regularly or have moved out of town.

I do not feel smart or good at these things; therefore, I do not like them — the tech stuff. This is why I have always hired professionals to help me to do the things that I do not feel good at doing. I am a firm believer that we all have our own amazing gifts and talents and we should share those with the world.

I love teaching yoga, and talking to people about their passions! I love speaking out loud, and lifting the energy in a crowded room through moving and breathing and music! This is what I like — I am good at it!

During these strange times, I have had to learn to push through my technology edges on my own — for both financial and distancing reasons — and it has not been easy. I had to rely on my own minimal skills to start doing virtual classes. And I did not feel good about it…at first. FB Live is just that — live — if you mess up you cannot take it back. I love a camera — I'm an actress — and I love a few takes even more. I also like a crew and those who make you look amazing on camera are all about lighting. So I am still learning, and researching — my growing edge is lighting and angles (again things I am not good at). I cringed while beginning these classes.  What I realized after your messages and comments was how much you needed them. What I was looking like was not so important to you all — thank you. This is why I am continuing, and maybe for a while.

I may not love this virtual platform, but I have grown to like it more...especially when I hear from those who cannot get to my classes regularly or have moved out of town.

Once again what I have learned is how grateful I am to all of those who are good at said technology and that they share their expertise with me. I look forward to working with many of these pros again. I need them and their insight and experience!

I am open to more live videos — maybe it’s time for Instagram Live. What do you think? Or more content on my YouTube Channel. I have held myself back from these platforms out of my inexperience and knowledge. I have forced myself to learn some new skills and must continue to do so.

We are always pushed into directions for a reason — growth!
